Sales of Mustang GT Brembo Package ‘Exceeding Our Expectations,’ Ford Says
According to Ford’s PR team, sales of the 2011 Mustang GT’s optional Brembo Package are “exceeding our expectations” and are “running substantially above last year’s Track Pack.” Unfortunately, no further details were revealed.
As you may already know, the Mustang GT, powered by an all-new 412-horsepower 5.0-liter V-8 engine, is the archrival of the Chevrolet Camaro SS and Dodge Challenger SRT8. Both the Camaro SS and Challenger SRT8 arrive in dealer showrooms with Brembo brakes as standard equipment.
Bottom line: Buyers in this modern day rear-drive performance coupe segment — one that now includes the Nissan 370Z and Hyundai Genesis Coupe — love to go fast, corner hard, and just as crucially, stop well.
We believe the Mustang GT to be the leader of its muscle car brethren. But it may not hold the position for long, as the next Camaro is slated to be moving to GM’s new rear-drive Alpha platform. It’s expected to arrive sometime in 2014.
Before then, a slimmer, go-faster Z28 will arrive using the existing Zeta platform that will do battle with the likes of the Ford Shelby Mustang GT500. It’s expected to be powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged LSA V-8.
For some reference, here’s what the $1695 Brembo Package entails:
– Front 14-inch Brembo vented rotors with Brembo four-piston calipers
– Rear 11.8-inch vented rotors with four-piston calipers
– Unique 19-inch wheels
– Summer performance tires
– Unique suspension
– Unique electronic stability control and steering tuning
